Thulli Varum Lyrics

What is the meaning of Thulli Varum lyrics?

This poignant song from 'Iru Thuruvam' uses powerful metaphors to lament a state of vulnerability and injustice. The imagery of a "leaping whirlwind" attacking a "trembling coconut grove" immediately sets a tone of impending disaster and helplessness. This metaphor extends to human life, particularly highlighting the plight of those without protection or support. The lyrics question divine justice, asking if such a defenseless state is truly God's decree, reflecting a deep sense of despair and a plea for intervention. The song further elaborates on this vulnerability by comparing an unguarded garden to a maiden without protection. Just as a fence-less garden is prone to being grazed by bulls, an unprotected woman faces a life of sorrow and tears. The absence of kind hands and merciful eyes, coupled with the double burden of loneliness and poverty, intensifies the feeling of abandonment. The final rhetorical question, "Why is dharma not a guard?", underscores a crisis of moral order and a yearning for justice and compassion in a world that seems to offer none.
